Tri-Town Adopts Arm Patch Design |
Thursday, 13 November 2008 |
Recently the membership of the Tri-Town Fire and Ambulance Co. adopted a new arm patch design. The base of the design uses the shield of the Fire Department of New York City (FDNY), one of the busiest and most widely respected fire departments in the world. The shield contains a Maltese Cross, the international symbol of the fire service's willingness to make great sacrifices in order to protect others from the ravages of fire. The outer sections of the cross are adorned with the words Duty, Honor, Courage and Valor to signify the manor in which the members of the fire service serve their community. In the center of the Maltese Cross is the Star of Life representing the departments Emergency Medical Services branch. The new patch provides the department with an identity and will be used on the department’s dress uniforms as well as its letterhead and on its apparatus. Members are also in the process of painting a large version of the design on one of the walls in its apparatus bay to welcome visitors to the station. |

Fire Prevention Week Open House |
Saturday, 04 October 2008 |
Fire Prevention Week is October 5th through the 11th this year and the theme is "Prevent Home Fire". Your home should be a safe haven. But do you regularly check for home fire hazards? If not, there is the potential for danger. Fire departments responded to nearly 400,000 home fires in 2006. That’s why the theme of Fire Prevention Week 2008 is “It’s Fire Prevention Week: Prevent Home Fires!” In conjunction with Fire Prevention Week the Harrision Township Fire Co. and the Tri-Town Fire Co. will be holding a joint Open House at each station. The first will be Tuesday Oct. 7th at the Harrision Township Fire Station in Harrison Valley. The second will be held at the Tri-Town Fire Station in Ulysses. Both will begin at 7PM until 9PM. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. |

You know what they say about a full moon. Well when you throw in the remnants of a hurricane to the mix things can REALLY get interesting. And that is just what happened on the night of Sept 14th and morning of Sept 15th. Things started off with a power failure in Ulysses Borough and surrounding area about 2100 hrs. This was the result of a large tree that had come down on Academy St near School St in the Borough that stapped off a pole and took down a set of 7200 volt power lines (as well as CATV and Phone lines). After about 4+ hours of standing by at that scene, checking on the residents of Silver Maples and checking out an alarm activation at another structure we went home for some rest. Well, it was a short rest. At 0410 hrs Dept 47 was toned for an engine transfer to cover station 48 Coudersport as they had responded on the 2nd alarm for an industrial fire at Elliott Lumber in Roulette. But the crew wouldn't stay at station 48 for long. About 30 minutes after arriving at station 48 we were requested to move up to the scene in Roulette. At the same time a second engine from Station 47 was requested along with both engines from neighboring Dept 20 Harrison Twp. Both departments would end up covering several assignments over the course of the next 14 hours including a response to a wires down with wildfire call on the Fishing Creeek Rd. Our thanks to the crew from Dept 5 Westfield for covering our district while we were out. Further information and photos on this incident may be found on PCFireNews.com
