Back in the 1970's there were more than 300,000 firefighters in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Today there are estimated to be less than 70,000. This is evident in the ranks of the Tri-Town Fire and Ambulance Co. as well. We currently have about 25 active personnel that perform a variety of duties including firefighting, emergency medical respons, fund raising and administrative duties. We are in need of additional staff, particularly in the 20 to 35 year old age range. While there is a job for everyone in our organization wether it be an adminstrative task or prying open the door of a crashed vehicle there is no doubt that the bulk of the firefighting and rescue tasks are for the younger amoung us.

 

While being a firefighter or EMT may not be for everyone there are a lot of different types of jobs in the department. We preform a large variety of tasks. From the tactical end we provide Emergency Medical Services, firefighting, vehicle extrication, wildland firefighting, wildland rescue and basic Haz-Mat response. There are also a number of tasks available other than getting into the nitty gritty of the tactical end of things. These include working fund raising activities, station and apparatus maintenance, and adminstrative tasks. Make no mistake about it this is a business, and as such there is no shortage of work to do in a lot of different areas.
