After several months of work by a special comittee in January of 2008 the Tri-Town Fire and Ambulance Co. adopted a new set of rules and regulations for Junior Firefighters. Once this was completed and the apointment of the advisors was made the department set out to rebuild its Junior Firefighter program. The goal of this program is to provide the Junior Firefighter/EMT with the necessary training so that once they have reached 18 years of age they can become senior members of the department.
Due to safety and legal requirements the duties of Junior Firefighters/EMTs are limited. They are not permitted to operate motorized equipment, handle hose lines (except in training) or enter a burning structure. They may help with putting equipment back into service after a call, assisting in station and equipment maintenance, participate in parades and training activities as well as act as support staff at the scene of an emergency. They may also participate in Fire Prevention activities and assisting at fund raising events.
Members 16 years of age or older interested in the Emergency Medical Services may become PA certified EMTs. The Tri-Town Ambulance Association will reimburse the cost for anyone that successfully completes of this course. They can not provide care without being under the direct supervision of a senior EMT or Paramedic.
We are currently accepting applications for the Junior Firefighter Program. Applicants must be at least 14 years of age and maintaining a minimum of a "C" average in school. All Junior Firefighters are also required to provide the Tri-Town Fire Co. with a copy of their working papers. Working papers may be acquired by contacting the school office.
Copies of the Tri-Town Junior Firefighter Rules and Regulations as well as the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Junior Firefighters Guide can be found by clicking on the appropriate links in the menu to the left. These are also available from any Department Officer or Junior Program Advisor.
PLEASE NOTE: The PA Junior Firefighters Guide file is aproximately 15M is size and should only be downloaded from a broadband connection.
